MRS. A. BERGE DIES INSTANTLY IN AUTO CRASH
Victim and Husband Enroute From Streator To Coast After Visit Here.

A six months happy visit with relatives and former neighbors in the vicinity of Streator, Grand Ridge, and Ransom by Mr. and Mrs. Adam Berge of Pasadena, Cal., ended tragically with the death of Mrs. Berge as a result of a head-on-collision at Stroud, Okla., late Sunday night, and placed Mr. Berge in a hospital in that city.
Word of the accident was received here from Lloyd Walling of Pasadena, Cal., son-in-law of the couple, who had been notified by Stroud authorities, and a number of relatives left here immediately for the Oklahoma city. Included in the party were William Baker of Los Angeles, Cal., brother of Mrs. Berge who was looking after farming interests here, Louis Lehr, a nephew of Grand Ridge, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Jenkins, tenants of the Adam Berge farm at Ransom, and Miss Mayme Kopf, aunt of Mr. Walling.
It has been learned that Mr. Berge was not badly injured, suffering bad bruises about his back and leg. He was able to sit up in bed when folks arrived. However, a coherent account of the accident could not be secured from him at the time.
Mr. and Mrs. Berge had spent Thursday night with his sister, Mrs. John Lehr in Grand Ridge and left Friday afternoon for Pekin, where they were overnight guests of their cousin, Mrs. Emaline Himmel.
They left Pekin early Saturday morning for the return trip to their beautiful new home in Pasadena, in which they were going to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary, January 1.
Mrs. Berge was the former Elizabeth Baker, daughter of William and Christiana (Eberhard) Baker, pioneer residents of Otter Creek township where she was born 76 years ago. The homestead was just east of Streator where the airport is located.
The marriage of Miss Baker and Adam Berge occurred there January 1, 1895, and they became the parents of one daughter, Thusnelda, wife of Lloyd Walling of Pasadena. There are two grandsons.
Mrs. Berge leaves two brothers, William Baker of Los Angeles, Cal., and Charles Baker, who resides east of Streator. A sister, Mrs. Louise Schultze and a brother, Nicholas Baker preceded her in death.
Tentative plans are to take the body to Pasadena for burial.

MRS. A. BERGE BURIED IN WEST
ACCIDENT VICTIM TAKEN TO LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA FOR INTERMENT.

Funeral services for Mrs. Adam Berge, 76, whose death occurred following an auto accident at Stroud, Okla., Monday morning, November 26, were held from a Methodist church the family attended in Los Angeles, Cal., this morning. Burial occurred there.
Mr. Berge who was driving the ill fated car in which his wife was killed, suffered from shock and chest injuries and remained a patient in the hospital at Stroud until Friday. He was able to travel to their home in Pasadena, Cal., his daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Walling, coming from the coast for him, arriving in Stroud Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Berge had been visiting among relatives and friends in Streator, Grand Ridge, and Ransom, since last spring, when they came east to look after their farming interests. They left here a little over a week ago. It has been learned they desired to get an early start from Stroud and were rounding a curve about 20 miles from that city when they crashed into another California car, going east, in which three discharged service men were traveling. Two of the boys were badly cut about the head, the third escaping injury. Treatment was to them at the hospital and they were able to resume their journey by rail. The two cars were complete wrecks.
William Baker of Los Angeles, Cal., a brother of Mrs. Berge, who had been visiting here, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Jenkins, Louis Lehr and Miss Mayme Kopf who went to Stroud in response to the message informing them of the tragedy returned to their homes in this locality Saturday.
Mrs. Berge was the former Elizabeth Baker, a native of Otter Creek Twp. She and Mr. Berge went to California a number of years ago to make their home.
