"A rural Chillicothe man was killed Saturday afternoon when the tractor he was driving overturned, pinning him underneath it. The dead man was identified as Charles Victor Hinchey, 24, of RFD 2.

The accident occurred while Hinchey was moving dirt with a scoop attached to the back of an Allis Chalmer tractor at a construction site near his home 10 miles south of Chillicothe. As the tractor neared the mound of dirt, it overturned.

Members of the Chillicothe Ambulance Service responded to the alarm and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Hinchey once he was pulled from underneath the tractor. He was taken to Hedrick Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Hinchey was a popular student at Chillicothe High School where he graduated in 1978. He was a top student and outstanding basketball player, earning All Conference, All District and All State honors. Hinchey attended Washington State University on a basketball scholarship for two years before transferring to the University of Missouri, Columbia, where he graduated in 1982. He taught agriculture at the Nodaway Holt school system for two years and recently returned to the Chillicothe area where he had begun a farming operation.

He was born April 1, 1960, the son of Charles Hinchey and Margaret Young Hinchey. He was married to Vanessa Shaffer on September 22 of this year in Maryville. He was active in St Columban Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife of the home; his parents of RFD 2; a sister, Mrs. Mary Margaret Parrish of Liberty; and two nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St Columan Catholic Church. Burial will be at the St Columban Cemetery." The Chillicothe Constitution-Tribune, December 10, 1984
