Marvin H. Grunewald, age 80, of 114 South Lincoln Drive, Howards Grove died peacefully on Wednesday March 29, 2006 at Greendale Health and Rehabilitation Center, with his loving family by his side.

He was born April 12, 1925 in the Town of Herman, a son of the late Norbert and Hertha (Roethel) Grunewald. Marvin attended school in Howards Grove, and graduated from Howards Grove High School in 1943.

Marvin was a proud veteran of World War II, serving from July of 1943 until his honorable discharge in December of 1945. A member of the Army Air Corp, he was a top turret gunner on an A-20 Medium Attack Bomber, seeing action in New Guinea, the Philippine Islands and Okinawa, Japan. Attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, he served in the 5th Air Force, 417th Bomb Group, 675th Bomb Squadron. During that time he earned the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Medal, the American Theater service Ribbon, Good Conduct and World War II Victory Medals and the Arial Gunners Wings.

On June 21, 1947 Marvin married the former Minnie W. Arnold at the parsonage of St. John's United Church of Christ in Sheboygan. He was employed by the Armira Corporation in Sheboygan for over 35 years, retiring in 1983.

Marvin was a faithful member of St. Johns United Church of Christ, Schwarzwald, where he had been a past deacon and elder of the Church. Active in the Howards Grove community, Marvin was a member of the Howards Grove Fire Department where he was a firefighter over 30 years and was department President for 4 years. He was a Charter member of the Howards Grove Veterans of Foreign Wars post 9924 since 1947, serving as post commander 5 times.

Surviving Marvin is his loving wife of 58 years, Minnie; sons, Steven, Dennis (Julyn) and Gary (Mary); a daughter, Carol (Jerry) Hunt; his grandchildren, Jeff, Sheila, Ryan, Jessica, Monica, Nathan, Joshua, Bryant, and Jared. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Maryssa, Brandon, and Jocelyn, and a brother, James (Carolyn) of Howards Grove.
