Sylvester “Joe” Aman, 79, died Oct. 19, at Akron City Hospital.

Born in Barberton, Joe was an area resident all his life. He retired from the Babcock and Wilcox Co. after 40 years of service. Currently a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Doylestown, Joe had been a member of SS. Cyril and Methodious Church, where he was an usher and a member of the Holy Name Society until its closing. Joe was a member of the wood-bee-woodcarvers. His hobbies were cutting and polishing stones and making them into rings, nature photography and wood carving. He also loved traveling, especially going on cruises with his wife.

Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Catherine and brother, James.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Kathleen J.; sister, Katherine Klusty; brother-in-law, Robert (Patricia) Bell; sister-in-law, Suzanne (Leonard) Gucciardo; brother-in-law, Robert Nolte; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, October 24, 11 a.m., at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 161 W. Clinton St., Doylestown. Fr. Robert Stein celebrant. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday, Oct. 23, 5-8 p.m. at the Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home, 1199 Wooster Road W, Barberton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to SS. Peter and Paul School Scholarship Fund or the charity of one’s choice.
