His paternal grandparents were Aden Ernest Nelson and Florence Bloomquist Nelson from near Niobe, North Dakota. His maternal grandparents were William Victor LeFebvre and Kathryn Sullivan LeFebvre of Minot, North Dakota.
As a teenager he was very active in hockey and baseball in Saskatoon. His father, Dwaine was a professor of music at the University of Saskatoon and his mother, Louis, was studying Minot State College.
Steve loved the outdoors and all it had to offer. He loved animals, especially his dog, Buff.
Steve loved poetry. His close friends say he often quoted Shakespeare.
Before he left this world, Steve was listening to Bob Dyland and reading Robert Browning.
His parents purchased a farm in Canada so he could spend time with their children outdoors. It was on this farm that Steven had an accident and got his leg caught in an auger. This left him wheelchair-bound and Steve became very depressed.
His memorial service was held in Minot, ND where his mother, Lois, had been attending Minot State College. He will be remembered as a loving brother, so fun loving and easy to get along with person. He is buried in the same cemetery as his maternal grandparents, Kathyrn Sullivan LeFebvre and William LeFebvre.
Pallbears were his brothers, Douglas, Winston, Fred and Jeffrey Nelson as well as his cousins, Hal Ross and Michael Nelson.
Steven was survived by his parents, brothers Douglas and Winston Nelson of Minot,ND; Fred Nelson of Bottineau, ND, Randi Nelson of Saskatoon, Canada, Jeffery Nelson of Saskatoon and his paternal grandmother , Florence Nelson on her farm outside of Niobe, ND.
A Memorials went to the University of Saskatchewan Scholarship Fund (Literature) and to the Minot State College Scholarship Fund (Literature).
