Benjamin Morton Hair was born on January 14, 1848 in Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky. His parents were Rev. Gilbert Mitchell Hair and Jane Morton Semple. He married Harriette Ridgway (daughter of Thomas Shannon Ridgway and Jane Docker) on January 16, 1873 in Shawneetown, Gallatin County, Illinois. His father was the officiant. The Hairs had four children named Ida Ridgway (Mrs. Harry Shurtleff Durant), Mabel (Mrs. William Ernest Barbour), Thomas Ridgway, and Genevieve. Benjamin was the director and president of the Schreiber Ridgway Lumber Company and a director of the Northwestern Yeast Company in Chicago, IL. He was also elected a member of the Industrial Bank of Chicago. Then he was president of the bank on January 1, 1893. Benjamin died on September 18, 1919 in Evanston, Cook County, Illinois.
