Benjamin F. Chesney Retired OR police officer

Benjamin F. Chesney, 85, of the Claxton community, died Monday morning, July 13, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mr. Chesney was a former resident of Oak Ridge and was retired from the Oak Ridge Police Department. He was an officer from June 1, 1960 until his retirement on May 5, 1975. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
He was born in Sevier County on May 5, 1913, the son of James and Minnie Randolph Chesney.
After retirement from the police department, Mr. Chesney and his wife, Catherine Maner Chesney, moved to the Claxton community. He had enjoyed farming in recent years, the family said. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by two daughters, Sandra Chesney of Clinton and Janice Frost and her husband, Paul, of Oak Ridge; four grandchildren, Becky Vanosdale, Bill Chesney, Karen Williams and Jim Andrews; and six great-grandchildren, Joe Vanosdale, Michael Vanosdale, Logan Chesney, Adam Chesney, Matthew Williams and Jake Williams.
Mr. Chesney is also survived by four sisters, Eula Henderson, Reva Chesney, Ruby Kaskuskee and Mildred Russell; three sisters-in-law, Rebecca Cooper, Oga Williams and Dorothy Marshall; and by several nieces and nephews.
His wife, Catherine Maner Chesney, and two sons, Jim Chesney and Darryl Chesney, died earlier.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, at McCarty Woodhaven Memory Gardens in Claxton with the Rev. Harold Ogle officiating. The family will meet at 10:45 a.m. at the cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, July 14, at McCarty-Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home.
