WALTER C. SMITH Eighty-nine year old Walter C. Smith of Ellis Grove died Oct. 18, 1983 at the Randolph County Nursing Home of Sparta. He was a retired security guard at Menard Correctional Center. Born July 23, 1894 at Jackson County, he was the son of Sherman and Melissa Ball Smith. He married Nina Kelley in 1922 and she preceded him in death. Survivors include one daughter, Delores Runge of Walsh; two grandsons, Bob Runge of Chester and Melvin Runge of Evansville; and seven great-grandchildren. Two sons, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Oct. 21, at Schroeder Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dan Flaxbart officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial contributions were preferred for the heart Fund.
