The shortstop spent eight years in the big leagues with the Philadelphia Athletics (1936), the Chicago White Sox (1943), the Boston Braves (1944 to 1947), the Chicago Cubs (1948) and the New York Giants (1949). His best year was 1945, when the right-handed hitter batted .262 and scored 87 runs. He hit .255 and scored 70 runs in 1946. The Braves swapped him to the Cubs on March 1, 1948 for infielder Bobby Sturgeon. For his career, he batted .244 with two homers and 99 runs batted in. (bio by: Ron Coons)
