Anna Elizabeth George, 101, died Wednesday at Lake of the Ozarks General Hospital in Osage Beach. She was born July 23, 1889, in Tuscumbia, a daughter of James E. and Martha Jane Hawken Clark. She was married May 16, 1909, to James A. Garfield Messersmith, who died Oct. 15, 1936. She was married April 15, 1938, to Phineus H. George, who died Nov. 15, 1963.
She was a teacher in various public schools in Miller County and for many years was active in United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Rebekahs, American Legion Auxiliary, Camden County Literary Club and Senior Citizens. Survivors incluee: one son, Dr. James Carl Messersmith, Arlington, Va.; one daughter, Mary F. Von Gremp, Camdenton; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Clark Messersmith, and one daughter, Martha E. Smith.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Camdenton. The Rev. Ross Fulton will officiate. Burial will be in Dale Blair Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Georgia Wade Chapel of the Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton. An Eastern Star service will be at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Camdenton United Methodist Church.
