He was the son of Titus and Laura Campbell Beck, and married Letitia Johnston on 14 February 1906 in Wood County. They had Bernice, Ruth, and Thelma. Earl was tall and of medium build with blue eyes and brown hair. He lost a finger on his left hand. The family moved to Sanilac County and then to Wayne County, Michigan.
