Mr. Dallas Eugene Young, age 91, of Carrollton, Ga., passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014. He was born Dec. 21, 1922, in Carroll County, Ga., the son of the late W. Edgar Young and the late Alva Dukes Young. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served in the European Theatre during World War II. A mainstay in the community, he worked at Southwire in Carrollton for more than 20 years and remained connected to those at the company long after he retired. He was a member and Deacon Emeritus of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where he also attended the Wisdom Sunday School Class. An avid outdoorsman, he loved gardening, fishing, and simply being outside. Lovingly known as “Papa,” his greatest joy came from spending time with his family.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Margaret Jones Young, of Carrollton; his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Brenda Young, of Carrollton; his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Joan Young, of Bremen; and son-in-law and daughter, Joe and Ginger Stone, of Carrollton. He also leaves many grandchildren and great grandchildren including: Kelly Williamson and her daughter Katie Grace, of Carrollton; Mark and Robin Lyles and their children Finn and Georgia, of Sullivan’s Island, S.C.; Bo and Elizabeth Stone of Auburn, Ala.; Lindsey Young, of Sullivan’s Island, S.C.; Jeff and Amy Vaughan of Nashville, Tenn.; and Taylor Stone, of Atlanta. He is also survived by his sister Clovis Marrow, of Austell; his brother and sister-in-law, William and Mary Todd Young of Franklin, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, his sister, Sarah Young Burnham, and his brother, Buford Young, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, October 16, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Gentry and Bo Stone officiating. Those serving as pallbearers are Bo Stone, Taylor Stone, Jeff Vaughan, Mark Lyles, Bill Stone and Bart Stone. Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens.
