Mrs. Humphries, 64, the wife of TSU's fourth president, Frederick S. Humphries, died of kidney failure. Mrs. Humphries was one of seven children born to Ida and Louis McTurner. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Tennessee State University and was involved in several civic projects while her husband served as president of TSU from 1974 until 1985. Among them was her service as a member of the board of Metro General Hospital and working as a patient advocate at the former Hubbard Hospital. After leaving Nashville, Mrs. Humphries moved to Tallahassee, Fla., with her husband, where he was president of Florida A&M University from 1985 to 2002. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Tanya Watson, Orlando; two sons, Frederick Humphries Jr., Seattle, and Laurence Humphries, Atlanta; and six grandchildren.
