Dewayne was born on March 22, 1935, in Alma Township, Marshall County, MN, to Frank and Florence (Nowacki) Banaszewski. He was raised in Nelson Park Township and attended Englund Country School. He was united in marriage to Barbara Blazejewski on October 20, 1956 at Assumption Catholic Church in Florian. Following their marriage, Dewayne and Barb made their home in South Saint Paul, MN. For eight years Dewayne worked in a paint factory, did landscaping and built new homes. In 1964, they moved their family back to the Strandquist, MN area to take over the family business at Englund Store. The following year, Dewayne started into the used car and auto parts business - Dewaynes’s Auto Parts. In 1987, Dewayne and his son, Dewayne Jr., expanded the auto parts and used car sales business to Roseau, MN. In 1995, Dewayne and Barb moved to Roseau where they moved into a new home that Dewayne built. Dewayne worked in the used car/auto parts business for forty-nine years.

Dewayne loved his family and always looked forward to card games with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for all his little pranks and practical jokes. Dewayne spent each day working at the shop and enjoyed visiting with friends and customers. Dewayne also enjoyed fishing, hunting, carpentry projects, working with scrap iron/dismantling cars, attending flea markets and auction sales as well as playing cards and trips to the various casinos.

Dewayne is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Barbara; four children, Dewayne Banaszewski Jr., Annette Robinson, Jennifer Edbom and Susan Ripplinger; two sisters, Carol Benke and Janice Blazejewski and sister-in-law, Mary Kujava.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Florence Banaszewski and sister, Janet Gostanczik.
