Animal Folk Figure. A giant Aldabra-Seychelles tortosie, Addwaitya (the peerless one)was believed to be the oldest animal in the world at the time of his death. The tortoise who was born between 1750 and 1756 was found when it was about 130 years old. The tortoise was also a supposed pet of British statesman and colonizer Sir Robert Clive at one time. Addwaitya died at the Alipore Zoo in Kolkata, India, of liver failure at the age of 250 or 255.
