Dorothy R. (Richardson) Ashcom, 93, of New Florence, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Aug. 7, 1921, in Johnstown, she was a daughter of the late George and Ethel (Mitchell) Richardson; and was also proceeded in death by her first husband, Robert W. Hill; daughter, Patricia Gregory; son, Frank M. Ashcom Jr.; an infant granddaughter; brothers, John and Stamford Richardson; infant brother, Charles Richardson; and sister, Martha Potts. She is survived by husband, Frank M. Ashcom, of New Florence; daughter, Sandra Lee Tincher, of Michigan City, Ind.; grandchildren, Robert Gregory and wife, Debbie, of Somerset, Michael S. Gregory, of Boswell, DeeDee McGowan and husband, Brian, of Somerset, Paula "P.J." Gregory, of New Florence, Tina Verzal and husband, Brian, of Michigan City, Kelly Ashcom-McIntosh and husband, CJ, of Billings, Mont., and Susanne Tincher, of Michigan City; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Dot was a life member of Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Ruth F. Barnhart Tent 56 and past president of Pennsylvania State Department of DUVCW; member of New Florence United Methodist Church and avid crafter who enjoyed crocheting, ceramics and various other crafts. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at KENNETH A. STUART FUNERAL HOME, 139 Ligonier St., New Florence, where service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, with Pastor Sharon Hamley officiating. Interment will be in Richland Cemetery.
