Dean Walter Brix, 86, a resident of Bettendorf, died Monday, October 6, 2014 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2014 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services on Friday. Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose University Scholarship Fund.

Born on June 1, 1928 in Stockton, IA, Dean was the son of Harry August and Elsie Virginia (Payson) Brix. On September 21, 1950 in Davenport, he married Ruthie Jane Holt.

Dean served as a medic in the United States Army during the Korean War. He owned and operated Brix-One-Hour Cleaners for 35 years. Following his retirement, he worked part-time for DelRich Pawn Shop. Dean was a member of the Bettendorf VFW Post 9128. He loved working with people and his customers were very important to him. They could ask for any special service and he would do his best to accommodate them.

Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife, Ruth; son, Jeffery (Sarah) Brix of Ankeny; grandchildren, Catherine Brix, John Brix, Tom Brix, Dan Brix, Sarah Brix and David Hamilton; and sisters, Barbara Jean Sanders and Diane Huston.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, LaVern.
