VIOLET DUAY, 97 died October 3, 2014 surrounded by love at Rosewood Health Center at the Grove in Independence, MO. She was born on November 17, 1916 in Clay County, KS. The daughter of Clarence and Margaret (Engelhart) Atkinson.

Violet Duay was raised in the Idana, Kansas area. She graduated in 1936 from CCCHS. Violet moved to Topeka and worked at Peanut Cafeteria. She later moved to Oklahoma City and worked as a baker until moving to Independence, MO in 2006. She was known for her constant smile and her love of animals, especially dogs. Violet was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Soldier Greek H.C.E., Midwest City Senior Citizens Club, as well as a volunteer for the Mid-Del Food Pantry, and R.S.V.P. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lloyd Atkinson, first husband John Ferguson and second husband John Duay

Daughter: Christine and husband Gerald Meyer, Independence, MO

Grandchildren, Johnna, Jeff and Jay and 6 Great-Grandchildren


Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 1p.m. at the Idana Cemetery in Idana, KS

Officiating the service will be Rev. Scott Lingle

Memorials: A.S.P.C.A or CCCIF for the Clay County Animal Shelter c/o the family.
