Second of 9 children and the only daughter born to Catherine COUNTS and Standwick W. HAYS, and, granddaughter of Catharine FELLERS and Henry COUNTS.
Margaret was born 1813 in Newberry, South Carolina. Margaret would have been about 3 years old when her Grandmother Catharine (nee FELLERS) COUNTS died in 1817 and was named in the WILL of her Grandmother (Will dated April 1, 1817 LWT proven in Newberry, South Carolina):
"I will and bequeath unto my beloved Grand Dauter Margaret Hayes one fether bed and one Chekerd Sheet and Chaff bed and no more-- to hur and hur for Ever".

In 1863 Margaret died in the area of Greenfield, Poinsette County, Arkansas. Burial site Unknown.
(Note: The Margaret Hays enumerated on the 1866 STATE Census for Blount County, Alabama is NOT the daughter of Standwick Hays but rather Margaret TIDMORE HAYS his daughter-in-law, widow of son James "Dick" HAYS.)

Together Alexander Whaley and Margaret HAYS had six children--
