Actress, Playwright. Griffiths is best known for 'Maggie and Pierre' her 1980 one-woman play. She was graduate of Dawson College, and then spent a year at McGill University where she earned a teaching certificate, and a year at the National Theatre School. Griffiths was a co-founder of the Saskatchewan '25th Street Theater' and co-creator of the 1977 play the 'Paper Wheat'. In 1980 she co-wrote 'Maggie and Pierre' with playwright Paul Thompson. The play was a one-woman show in which Griffiths played Pierre Trudeau, his wife Margaret Trudeau, and an inquiring fictional reporter named Henry. Her success in "Maggie and Pierre" led to American filmmaker John Sayles to cast her in his film 'Lianna' as the title character. She won the "Alliance for Gay Artists Award" in Los Angeles for her performance in the film. Griffiths also had the leading roles in other movies such as 'The Marriage Bed', 'Mama's Going to Buy You a Mockingbird' and 'Overdrawn at the Memory Bank' opposite Raul Julia. She continued to act in theater, and in her life she wrote many plays. Some of her works were 'The Duchess', 'Alien Creature', 'Works like Jessica', "Age of Arousal" and 'The Darling Family'. During her career Griffiths won the Dora Mavor Moore Awards five times. She also won the Outstanding New Play for 'O.D. in Paradise', 'Jessica, Alien Creature', and 'Maggie and Pierre' for which she also won an Outstanding Performance. Griffiths won the Floyd S. Chalmers Canadian Play Award twice, for 'Jessica and Alien Creature'. Her last performance was in 'Heaven Above, Heaven Below' at Theater Passe Muraille.
