Dewey Wilson was born on 4 September 1898 near Pretty Prairie, Kansas to Lewis Riley and Livona (Tarrant) Wilson. He was the ninth of their ten children.
When Dewey was about six years old, his parents moved to a farm in Kiowa County, Kansas near Greensburg. His father died when he was 12, a loss he deeply felt for the rest of his life.
On 4 August 1919, he married Janet Sutton from nearby Mullinville. During the first years of their marriage, they lived near Greensburg and Coldwater, Kansas. They moved to an area of the Stevens/Seward county line in the mid-1920s where they would remain until about 1950 at which time they moved to a farm south of Sheridan Lake, Colorado. They spent the rest of their lives at that location.
Dewey and Janet had ten children, six sons and four daughters, including one set of twins (Bud and Murl). Two of their sons (one was Ian) served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, while their youngest served in the U.S. Army in Viet Nam. Their children gave them 30 grandchildren and, at the time of Dewey's death, six great grandchildren.
Dewey died of emphysema on 4 April 1976 in Weisbrod Memorial Hospital, Eads, Kiowa County, Colorado.
