Death of Eld. Elijah Bailey.
Elder Elijah Bailey, formerly of Readsboro' in this county, died in Brewster, Mass., on the 23d ult., in the 80th year of his age. Most assuredly a good and upright man has gone to his reward. His labors as a Methodist preacher for more than sixty years have been abundant, and our earliest recollections are associated with his memory, as the earnest apostle of Jesus, He was a true Jeffersonian Democrat, and for sixteen years represented Readsboro' in the Legislature—for sixteen years he was a Justice of the Peace, but never issued an execution, as all his his [sic] courts were those of conciliation.
