Willie was a farmer who homesteaded 160 acres near Bessie in April of 1892. He was also the first teacher in the old Hatchett School near Bessie, Washita County, Oklahoma.

Willie died of typhoid fever in 1904 leaving his wife Susie with a large family. The ten children ranged from 8 months to 10 years old at Willie's death. Susie's accomplishment of raising 10 kids alone on a farm in
the early 1900's gained the admiration of the Hatchett family who regarded her highly.
