Horace was born in Vermont and came with his parents to Beldenville, building a new house in July 1879.Horace dug many ginseng plants at this time. He married Jennie Wiley on November 21, 1885 at Beldenville. Horace was Beldenville Postmaster after her mother for three years. Horace and Jennie ran a general stoe in Beldenville during their early years of marriage (1886-1888). Jennie's brothers, (Levi, Allie, Charles, and Gilbert Wylie) started stealing goods from the store. Horace went broke so he took his family to Hibbing to work in the iron mines. Again the Wylie brothers showed up. Sonne Horace and Jennie returned to Beldenville in August 1891 flat broke. Horace did various odd jobs around the Beldenville area for the next few years. In November 1899, they moved to the Gilpford House in Ellsworth. Sometime after his wife had died, Horace moved to his daughter's in Trenton Township.
