Writer, Director, Actor and Producer. He was the guiding force behind such television hits as "The Courtship of Eddie's Father," in which he also appeared as 'Norman Tinker,' "Chico and the Man," and "Welcome Back, Kotter." He is credited with discovering and launching the careers of John Travolta and the late Freddie Prinze. He also directed many popular television shows such as "Star Trek," "Combat," "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and "My Favorite Martian," as well as many others. Early in his career, he worked as a stand up comedian and also appeared as a regular in the series "Hennesey." (bio by: James Novak)
