DEDICATION

The present day renewal of the St. John Cemetery can be attributed to a great physical effort put forth by a very pious and dedicated man. Monsignor George Bodin, pastor of St. John Cathedral Parish from 1961 to 1977, loved his church, his parish, and, as he so well demonstrated, had a great respect for its dead. During his last years as pastor and in his retirement years, he personally surveyed the historic five-acre cemetery cataloging every tomb and headstone in it. His great interest in the area's families and their histories was evident to all who worked with him.

He first began his project in 1972, which undoubtedly took many months to complete. He then began a card file to record all of the burials in the cemetery, those from the survey and the current ones taking place. In 1982, after his retirement as pastor, he returned to the cemetery to update his original survey. In the late 1980's, with voluntary help, he began the task of organizing what remained of 150 years of cemetery records. Monsignor Bodin died on December 28, 1988. Several months later, with the help of Monsignor Glen Provost, the St. John Cemetery Commission was established to carry on his work.

It is to this man, so sensitive to the value of our memories, that this work is dedicated.
