Joanne Searcy Yancey, 84, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2014 at her home in Ocala. She is survived by her six sons, (Jim Jr and wife Kay, Wayne and wife Trudy, Phil and wife Vicki, Bert, Chris and wife Terri all of Ocala and John and wife Liz of New Smyrna Beach). She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, (Sue Goldman of Washington DC and Peggy Campbell of Indian Rocks Beach). She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Jim Yancey Sr., a sister, Doris McKee of Indian Rocks Beach, and a granddaughter, Corey Yancey of Ocala.

Joanne was born in Monticello, Florida and moved to Tallahassee as a young child. She attended Leon High School where she was a cheerleader, a member of the homecoming court, and it was there she met her future husband Jim. With 6 sons, she was always active in sports and booster club activities, helped with Cub Scouts, and served multiple times as classroom Mom. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Ocala for over 44 years and was active as an elder, member of the St. Augustine Presbytery, an active member of the Presbyterian Woman, and multiple other committees. She was a Master Gardener, the first female Honoree of the Metro Ocala Rotary Club’s Memorial Award, and a long-time member of the Ocala Zoning Board. Joanne ran the annual Henry N. Camp Golf Tournament for over 40 years and was a staple in the Ocala Muny Pro Shop for over 25 years with Jim Sr. She was always an avid Gator fan.

At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jim and Joanne Yancey Memorial Scholarship which benefits Public School Graduates pursuing a degree in Agriculture or Golf. Donations may be sent to Marion County Public Education Foundation, 1239 NW 4th St, Ocala, FL 34475.

The visitation will be held Thursday, September 25th, 2014 from 5:00-7:00pm at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home, 910 E Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, Fl. The Memorial Service will take place on Friday, September 26th, 2014 at 11:00am at First Presbyterian Church, 511 SE 3rd St, Ocala, FL
