She was raised, along with her three brothers, on her family's farm there. She graduated from the eighth grade at the Cottage Grove School in Jasper County and later attended Monroe High School.
As a young woman, Ada (as she was known) helped on her family's farm. There she developed her life-long interests in gardening, cooking, and canning.
On June 6, 1943, she was united in marriage with Harold Keuning. Harold's uncle, Rev. John Keuning, performed the ceremony at Ada's farm home near Monroe. To this union their son, Charles, was born on June 5, 1949.
Ada was employed in the housekeeping department at Central College for many years. Later she helped Harold with the administration of their family business, Keuning Plumbing and Heating.
Following retirement, Harold and Ada enjoyed traveling to Arizona and California during the winter months. A highlight in their travels was a trip to the Netherlands which included sightseeing and visiting family.
Due to declining health, in January 2004 Harold and Ada moved from their home to Vriendschap Village in Pella where they lived for a few months before moving to Fair Haven East in Pella.
