Major League Baseball Player. Some references give his birthdate as 1927. The outfielder served in the Marines before signing with the Pittsburgh Pirates and making his debut in 1952. He was one of the fastest runners in baseball, but he had trouble getting to first base. The right-handed batter hit just .179 his first year and .205 in 1956. His career totals were .187 (25 for 134) and nine stolen bases. He was a scout for many years and was a minor-league manager and coach during a baseball career than lasted more than 50 years. He died of prostate cancer.
