Second Duke of Kingston

He was the only son of William, Earl of Kingston, by his wife Rachel, daughter of Thomas Baynton of Little Chalfield, Wiltshire. He was educated at Eton. He participated in fighting the Rebellion and reached the rank of General in 1772.

In 1769 he married Elizabeth Chudleigh, the wife of Augustus John Hervey, 3rd Earl of Bristol. Following his death, his will left his estate to Elizabeth, but was challenged by a nephew named Charles Meadows, who accused Elizabeth of bigamy. She was found guilty, fled to Russia, then Paris, and Meadows assumed the name of Pierrepont, Earl Manvers.
