PEORIA -- Nan Fleming Smiles, 85, of 3111 W. Kiva Court died at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 1994, at Methodist Medical Center emergency room.

Born Aug. 8, 1908, in Springfield to William F. and Sarah Mathilda Wade Doty, she married Joseph Nelson Fleming Sr. on July 2,1927. She later married Joseph E.Smiles on June 29, 1956. He died March 5, 1960, in Peoria. Several brothers and sisters, and three grandsons also preceded her in death.

Surviving are four sons, Joseph N. Fleming of Bartonville, James William Fleming of Peoria, Jack L. Fleming of Morton and Thomas E. Fleming of East Peoria; one brother, Richard R. Doty of Sunnyland; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandson.

She worked at Hunter's Lunch for 22 years. She last worked at Peoria Pancake House for seven years, retiring in 1971. She was a former member of First Baptist Church in Bloomington.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. The Rev. Jack Thompson will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at the chapel. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
