The 6-foot-1 right-hander led the National League in appearances with 48 in 1946 and 62 in 1947. He broke in with the New York Giants in 1943 with a 1-5 record and a 3.74 earned run average. He served in the military for the next two years before rejoining the Giants in 1946. He was 7-14 with a 3.87 ERA that season when he pitched a career-high 151 innings with two complete games in 13 starts. He was strictly a reliever after that, going 8-4 with a 3.75 ERA in 1947 and 4-5 with a 3.18 ERA in 1948. He was sold to Philadelphia on December 14, 1948 and finished his big-league career with the Phillies in 1949, going 1-1 in 42 games with a 4.00 ERA. His five-year lifetime totals were 21-29 with a 3.74 ERA. (bio by: Ron Coons)
