Herbert Brinkmeyer, Sr., age 85, of Taylor died Friday, January 11, 2002 at Renaissance Villa in Rockdale. Services of Celebration will be 2 PM, Sunday at Providence Funeral Home Chapel in Taylor with Pastor David Tietz and Daryn Holdsworth officiating. Burial will follow at Taylor City Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Roy Brinkmeyer, Curtis Hehman, Paul McCormick, Milton Koch, Rodney Schmidt and Edmond Schmidt.
Herbert Brinkmeyer was born June 3, 1916 in Washington County, Texas to Karl "Charlie" and Antonie (Wick) Brinkmeyer. He lived most of his life in the Taylor community and attended Thrall Schools. Herbert married Elinor Schmidt on June 15, 1940 in the Wuthrich Hill community, a marriage that lasted for 61 years. He was a self-employed carpenter and builder. Herbert began teaching at Granger High School in the building trades department. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, such as fishing and hunting. Herbert was an avid gardener, known for his enormous gardens. He was always planting pecan trees and had won many awards for his pecans. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Taylor and Sons of Hermann Lodge.
Survivors include his wife Elinor Brinkmeyer of Taylor; son, Herbert Brinkmeyer, Jr. and wife, Denise of The Colony, Texas; a brother, Raymond Brinkmeyer and wife, Zelma of Comfort; sisters, Lorena Hejl and husband, Johnnie of Taylor and Ruth Rushing of Houston; four grandchildren, Emily Rae, Samuel, Max Christian and Joseph Lee Brinkmeyer and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents; a son, Franklin Brinkmeyer; a granddaughter, Marie Brinkmeyer; a brother, W. J. Brinkmeyer and a sister, Emma Hehman.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Alzheimer's Association or of one's choice.
