Further education was at Iowa State University-majoring in Home Economics education and minor in Physical Education. After graduation she worked at the county extension office in Fort Dodge, Iowa, for one summer.
Her teaching career began at Ida Grove, Iowa, for two years where she met and married Dean A. Shaw. Their first home was in Denison, Iowa, where he worked with JC Penney Company and she taught school for one year. Daughter, Terri, was born there. She also taught school in Schleswig, Iowa.
The family (Dean) was transferred to Fairmont, Minnesota, where son, Scott, and daughter, Pamela, were born. The next JC Penney Company transfer was to Madison, Wisconsin. Michael was born at Willmar, Minnesota. They lived in Clara City for eight and one-half years.
In 1961 she received a call from Clarkfield principal, Clarence Miles, inquiring about teaching Physical Education, Health and Home Economics. After much pondering she decided to take that job driving three years from Clara City to Clarkfield. In 1964 the family moved to Clarkfield where Bonnie taught 25 years. They built their home in 1968 one block north of the school.
Bonnie enjoyed bowling and attended and was active in the Methodist Church. She attended Blandin Leadership Training at Grand Rapids, Minnesota in 1988.
