Cecelia TUTTLE, b. Dec. 29, 1762; m. Charles Gordon SMITH, b. Christmas day, 1759, Hanover, Morris Co., N.J.; d. in Carrollton, Montgomery, Ohio 1838; bu. in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio; son of Jasper SMITH of England. and Elsie GORDON of Scotland, who emigrated to America and died in N.J. Charles G. Smith was a dry goods merchant for many years; removed to Ohio in 1810; children born in Hanover, Morris Co., N.J.

VII. Catherine Emeline Smith, b. 1800, d. Carrollton, Montgomery Co., Ohio, 1851; m. 1822, Perry PEASE, b. Jan. 23, 1797; from Suffield, Conn. He was a wealthy land owner; resided Carrollton, of which village he is said to have owned nearly the whole besides several thousand acres of the adjacent territory. As a large stockholder and leading director of the Dayton & Cincinnati (short line) railway nearly a third of a century ago, he was well known to the copiler who, as an engineer, was then engaged in locating that work. We are glad to add our testimony to the tribute paid by Mrs. STEVENSON to his character: "He was a man of rare excellence, a good christian and of a noble generous nature." He died 1863.

This record of the descendants of Charles G. and Cecelia Tuttle Smith is from Mrs. Cecelia H. Stevenson, who writes to the compiler that many of the females of this branch were remarkable for beauty of person and loveliness of character.
[NOTE: In the above mentioned book, Alva Tuttle states Charles Smith died in Carrollton, Montgomery County, Ohio, but Carrollton, Ohio is in Carroll County which is on the opposite side of Ohio so I'm pretty sure he meant Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio.]
