Born Dec. 7, 1931, in Brevard, he was the son of Noah Carson Miller, Sr ., and Annie Dorothy Young Miller.
After high school, he joined the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Kearsarge during the Korean War as a radio operator.
He was selected to serve on the Navy boxing team and won the U.S.S. Kearsarge Welterweight Championship.
While his ship was dry-docked in San Francisco, he met and later married the love of his life, Elissa Larrea Miller. They were happily married for 50 years, separated only by her passing in 2006.
