Former U.S. Representative. He and his family moved from New York to Manteca, California. He was raised on his grandparents' farm and attended the local public schools. He attended Modesto Junior College. After his graduation in 1936 he went on to the University of California at Berkeley, and earned his law degree there in 1941. His career as a lawyer hit a snag when he had a four-year stint in the Security Intelligence Corps in the army during World War II. In 1948 McFall became a Manteca City Councilman and later Mayor. He was elected to the state assembly in 1951. He remained there until his election to the United States Congress in 1956. As a demorcrat from California he would rise to the position of House majority whip under then Speaker Tip O'Neill . He would serve eleven terms in Congress. He lost his bid for re-election to a 12th term in 1978. He was a family man through and through. He was married to Evelyn A.M. Anklam McFall for 51 years until her death in 2001. The couple had four children. In 1978 he retired to Virginia where he died at age 88. (bio by: The Perplexed Historian)
