DR JOHN FORD ACREE, JR., was born on November 17, 1932 in Texas City, TX and he went to be with the Lord on September 5, 2014. He is preceded in death by parents, Willie Mae and John Ford Acree Sr; brother, T. Allen Acree and sister, Patsy Ann Acree.
He is survived by wife, Glada Acree of 51 years and son, John Ford Acree III (Trey) and wife Ann Marie; sisters, Dorothy Burton and husband Shepherd, and Frances Saunders and husband Joe; sister-in-law, Elma Acree and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
John graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1954 and from the University of Texas Dental Branch with a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1958. He was awarded the Mosby Scholarship Book Award for Outstanding Student of Oral Surgery in 1958. He began his dental practice in Texas City and retired after 50 years of service. In 1960, he started the Head Start Dental program in Texas City schools.
John loved sports and played football, basketball and ran track. His favorite sport was basketball. He played on the 1949 Texas City State Basketball Championship Team. He enjoyed yearly family vacations to Cancun, Mexico, snow skiing and traveling to different parts of the world with friends and family. And he loved those Fighting Texas Aggies!
John was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Texas City, a trustee on the Board of Education of Texas City Schools for 19 years, Rotary Club Member for 44 years and held many other civic memberships.
