He was married to Mary Melton, September 12, 1841. To these parents were born 7 children, two of whom are dead; two sons and three daughters remain to mourn the loss. Mr. Simmons was again married August 4, 1889 to Nancy J. Grant of Westfield who survives him.
He was from youth a blacksmith. He became a Christian early in life joining the U.B. Church. He later changed to the Baptist church.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.
