| Birth: | Sep. 11, 1611 | | Death: | Jul. 27, 1675 |  Marshal of France, better known by his title as Viscount de Turennes. One of France's greatest military leaders. Began his career in French service in the Thirty Years War. Siding initially with the rebels during the revolt of the Fronde, he was later reconciled to the governemnt and defeated the Prince of Conde. Died in battle during the Dutch Wars after some notable victories on the Rhine. Ancestor of Theophile de le Tour d'Auvergne (q.v.). (bio by: David Conway)
