| Birth: | Jun. 7, 1921 Philadelphia Philadelphia County Pennsylvania, USA | | Death: | Jul. 3, 1986 Fort Worth Tarrant County Texas, USA | Major League Baseball Player. The Philadelphia Athletics right-hander fired a no-hitter during his rookie year against the Washington Senators on September 3, 1947. He missed a perfect game when Stan Spence reached first base in the second inning as first baseman Ferris Fain fielded his grounder and threw wildly to McCahan covering first. He was 10-5 with a 3.32 earned run average in 1947, but he suffered arm problems because of an off-season job lifting heavy oil barrels. He finished his four-year career with a 16-14 record and 3.84 ERA. He was in the Army Air Corps from 1941 to 45. (bio by: Ron Coons)
