Jack Brooks, son of Alice Elizabeth French (Egg Harbor City Cemetery, Atlantic County, New Jersey) and Frederick B. Brooks (Elwood Cemetery, Atlantic County, New Jersey) lived in Elwood, NJ. He moved to Egg Harbor City, NJ, in 1937 after living in New York City.
Jack was the grandson of David French and Jane Taylor, Honesdale, PA, who came to the USA in 1873 from Mollington, England.
He was the grandson of Mary Ann Wainwright and William Henry Brooks. Mary Ann Wainwright came to the USA in November 1887 with her two sons, Frederick B and Albert H. Brooks. The nephew of Willaim James Wainwright, brother of Mary Ann Wainwright Brooks.
The great-grandson of William Brooks and Maria Davis and also, William Wainwright and Hanna Clough, all of England.
The great great-grandson of James and Ann Clough, and also, Willaim Brooks, both from England.
Jack had two sisters:
Adelaide Brooks Milne DOB: August 14, 1909 - DOD: May 16, 1991, married Lewis Haws Milne. They had two sons: Lewis Brooks Milne, DOB: 7/2, married to Gail Edelbach, daughter Bonnie Louise, DOB: 11/16, and son, Eric (Rici) Lewis Milne DOB: 1/23; and, Donald Milne, DOB: 4/13; married Marjorie Day Milne, son David Milne, 4/14; and Allison, 3/28.
Marjorie Jane Brooks Gries, DOB: April 14, 1917 - DOD: March 12, 1995, married to George Ernest Gries, one daugther Marjorie Alice Gries (Roesler 1st) Garwood (2nd) , DOB: 5/1, married to (Stephen H. Roesler 1st), one adopted daughter, Christin F. Roesler, and married to Frederich R. Garwood (2nd), a step-son, Michael R. Garwood.
He attended Hammonton High School.
Jack married Myrtle McAnny, October 22, 1939. They adopted a daughter,
Karla Sue Brooks Graybell, DOB: 7/1, married to Timothy Graybell DOB: 2/16.
Karl and Tim had two daughters: Julie DOB: 10/18; Becky DOB: 3/1 and, one son Justin, DOB: 8/28.
Jack developed the first self-service market in Pleasantville and he later managed the Pleasantville A&P for 25 years. He was a partner with his borhter-in-law, in Wernerbooks Frozen Custard, Absecon. He then started Werner-Brooks Variety Store in Absecon, NJ. He was part owner of serveral other businesses. He was active in his church and served on the trustee board of Emmanual Congregational Church, Egg Harbor City, NJ. He was a founding member and trustee of the Pilgrim Acedemy, affiliated with his church but located in Galloway Township, NJ. Jack was a membmer of Gideon International and the Kiwanis Club of Absecon, NJ.
Jack died at his daughter's home in Hackettstown, NJ.
Arrangements were by Parsels Funeral Home. Serviced were held at the Emmanunuel Congregation Church, Egg Harbor City, NJ. He is burined at the Egg Harbor City, Cemetery.
