GREENWICH -- Garvin Blanton, 83, died Friday, March 3, 2006, at Fisher Titus Medical Center, Norwalk, after a brief illness.
He was born June 17, 1922, in Paintsville, Ky., son of the late Clifford and Lillie Blanton. He had lived in Greenwich since the early 1950's.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe, where he was a tank driver.
He was a union construction worker for Ohio Engineers until his retirement at the age of 62. He farmed in Richland County for the past 20 years.
Mr. Blanton attended the Noble Road Baptist Church. He was a member of Rural Coon Hunters Club in Greenwich. Mr. Blanton was an avid coon hunter.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Wyonia Sue and Bud Keller of Venice, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Lee and Phyllis Price of Somerset, Ind.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Earnia Blanton of Shiloh; a sister and brother-in-law, Carrie and Jay Castle of Bucyrus, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Blanton; a brother, Arnold Blanton; and a sister, Avonell Meadows.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2006, at Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main St., Greenwich, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Delmer Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven.
