Completed his earthly mission at his home in his caring wife's arms in Rexburg at age 66 from mesothelioma (asbestos) cancer after a courageous fight. The second of eight children of Veda May Nielson and Norman Thompson. Grew up Chinook, Montana. Graduated from Chinook High School. Served four years in the U. S. Navy with three years on board ship and a year in school receiving electrical training.

Married Linda Bauer. Settled in Rexburg to raise their family. With two other electricians founded Upper Valley Electric, Inc. Bought the business and became sole owner. Took great pride in his work to create a successful business to support his family. After 21 years of marriage Linda passed away leaving Norman to raise his children on his own. Married Pauline Leonard Maddox February 25, 1986. Marriage solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together worked side-by-side at Upper Valley Electric, Inc. Sold the business to his brother Steven Thompson and brother-in-law Lyle Chandler. Became an electrical inspector for the State of Idaho. Active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving as temple officiator, finance clerk and high councilman at Brigham Young University-Idaho. Enjoyed boating, fishing, camping and creating heirlooms for his family. Joking around, Norman left happy memories to be cherished by his family.

Survived by wife Pauline Leonard Maddox Thompson; children Joyce Wagner, Darcy (Gillies) Janssen, Daniel Maddox and Dean Maddox; 13 grandchildren Mindy Wagner, Ashley Wagner, Jared Wagner, Evan Gillies, Hailey Gillies, Rhonwen Janssen, Steward Maddox, Dillon Maddox, Bridger Maddox, Kassidy Maddox and Tyne Maddox; brothers Steven Thompson and Richard Thompson, sisters Jolene Nickey, Iretta Hanson, Diane McKay and Laura Jones. Predeceased by his wife Linda, his parents, and sister Debbie Chandler.

Services held Thursday February 23, 2006 in the Rexburg North LDS Stake Center. Burial under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg with military rites.
