Samuel enlisted in Company I, Twelfth Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and served three months. After this term he re-enlisted in Company F, Seventieth
Ohio Volunteer Infantry, for three years, passing through several severe battles, viz.: Pittsburg Landing,
Corinth, Vicksburg, Atlanta, Chattanooga.
