Funeral Services Held Monday for Mrs. John Smith
Dies Unexpectedly at Home Thursday
Funeral services were held at the Central Reformed church here at 1:30 p.m. Monday for Mrs. John Smith, 72, a life-long resident of Sioux Center community, who passed away suddenly at her home here Thursday evening of a heart ailment.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Marion Klaaren and burial was made in the Sioux Center Community cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg's Funeral home.
A service attended by members of the immediate family was held at Vander Ploeg's Funeral chapel preceding the service at the church.
Pall bearers were John Mol, John DeZeeuw, John E. DeZeeuw, Walter Warntjes, Elmer Vande Brake and Gilbert Vande Brake.
Mrs. Smith, nee Pearl DeZeeuw, was born in Sioux Center on June 26, 1891, and grew to womanhood here.
She was married to William E. Vande Brake on September 10, 1914, and to this union were born two daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. Louis Boeyink) and Patricia (Mrs. Irvin Mouw), both of Sioux Center.
Mr. Vande Brake preceded her in death on October 19, 1920.
Sixteen years later, on August 31, 1936, she was united in marriage to John Smith at Pella, Iowa.
Survivors besides her husband and two daughters include Mr. Smith's three children by a previous marriage, John H. of Rock Valley, Germina (Mrs. James Smith) of Charleston, Ill., and Winifred (Mrs. Clarence Kooima) of Rock Valley; six grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, three great grandchildren; two brothers, John and Andrew DeZeeuw of Sioux Center; two sisters, Mrs. Jake Mol and Ann DeZeeuw, also of Sioux Center.
