Professional Baseball Player. The St. Louis Cardinals right-handed pitcher was 37-11 over six seasons from 1937-46 with a 3.32 earned run average but was unable to realize his full potential because of injuries and illness. He was used mostly in relief and was 10-0 in 1941 and 13-3 in 1942. He started 17 games in 1943 and had an 11-5 record. He entered the military in 1944 and suffered leg wounds during infantry action in France. He returned to the Redbirds in 1946, went 0-2 in 15 games and was sent to the minor leagues. He retired after the season.
