Aura Chatfield Edwards
August 30, 1923 ~ August 23, 2014
Resident of Lafayette, CA
Aura passed away peacefully in Walnut Creek on August 23 just seven days shy of her 91st birthday. She was born August 30, 1923 in Williams, California to Clark and Madge Chatfield. She is survived by her son …, grandson …., granddaughter … , great-granddaughter..., as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many close personal friends.

Aura grew up in Williams and attended UC Berkeley where she met her husband Fred. They were married in 1945 and were married until Fred passed away in 2003. Aura and her family moved from Kensington to Lafayette in 1955. As a Lafayette resident Aura became involved with various community service activities including Vice Chairman of Lafayette's 49 member Blue Ribbon Citizen's Committee, Vice Chair of Lafayette's BART District Study Committee, President, Stanley Junior High School Parents' Club, and President, Acalanes High School American Field Service Club.

Aura was also active in Republican politics at the local and state level where she was President of the California Federation of Republican Women North and Women's Vice Chairman for the North of the Republican State Central Committee. Aura also served on the Contra Costa County Grand Jury. As a result of her time on the Grand Jury, Aura also served as President of the Juvenal Hall Auxiliary.

Aura was one of the few female professional theatre pipe organists in the United States and worked for 11 years at the Bella Roma Pizza Parlors in Concord and Martinez. Over the years she entertained hundreds of local school children and various organizations at her home in Lafayette where she and Fred had installed a Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ which was originally created for the Loews theatre in Memphis, Tennessee.

To say Aura marched to a different drummer would be a significant understatement. Her oversized round colored glasses as well as her many unique interests clearly put Aura in a different league. In 1967 she began a long self study process in metaphysics and became a member of the Association for Research and Enlightenment, where the was asked to speak on dreams. This resulted in a fascination of dreams and dream analysis resulting in her writing a book on how to interpret and analyze dreams. She spoke frequently to many organizations on dreams.

She also was interested in and lectured on reincarnation, UFO's, Karma, and many other subjects covered in parapsychology and metaphysics. Aura was truly a unique individual.

During her life she constantly played bridge and was a member of multiple bridge groups.

Throughout her most unusual life she made many friends, helped whenever she recognized a need, and will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She was preceded by her husband Fred, a son John, daughter Kathy, four sisters and one brother.

It was Aura's wish not to have a funeral. Her ashes will be interred next to her husband's in the Edwards Family plot at Oakmont Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.

Her usual response to people whom she helped and who asked what they could do for her was "Do some kindness anonymously for someone whom you believe has hurt you in the past or has caused you the most grief. That would be a wonderful gift for everyone concerned."
