Joyce M. Dukes, 97, passed away October 8, 2013. She was born August 9, 1916 in Meridian and was a life- long Sutter County resident. She graduated from Sutter High School Class of 1934 and attended Yuba College.

Joyce was a self-employed bookkeeper and kept the books for many local small business owners. She was active in the community in many organizations including a life member of Menzaleh Temple #16 Daughters of the Nile and Fidelia Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She was also active in her children's many activities including Job's Daughters Bethel 256, Camp Fire Girls, Boy Scouts and Room Mother.

She is survived by her son Leonard VanNatta, daughter Joy Hammons; grandchildren: Angela Hammons, Doug Hammons, Dhawn Balderama and James Balderama; stepchildren: George Lewis, Sandra Dukes Reid, Karen Carlton Weegens and Linda Carlton Stoops; 6 great grandchidren, 1 great-great granddaughter; & many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by daughter Glee Greenagle McNair, husbands Harold Dukes and Frank Carlton, sisters Loretta Ullrey, Lavene Young, Dorothy Dixon, Frances Prarat and Betty Parker, and parents Richard and Ada Dixon.

Joyce was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
