The marriage bond for Nancy Ann Thomas and Edward Cook was dated Feb. 4, 1786 in Orange Co., NC. According to Edward's pension application they moved from Orange Co. to Rutherford Co., NC in 1795. After Edward died Feb. 7, 1843, Ann applied for a pension. In her application she named their twelve children with their birth dates.

Moses Cook April 2, 1876
Hannah Cook February 19, 1789
Aaron Cook April 1, 1791
Deliah Cook February 13, 1793
James Cook April 14, 1795
John Cook May 30, 1797
Sary Cook April 17, 1800
Thomas Cook April 5, 1802
Kizzia Cook April 9, 1804
Mary Cook July 18, 1806
Jesse Cook March 29, 1809
David Cook November 2, 1811

In her pension application Nancy also states that her husband, Edward Cook, died Feb. 7, 1843. Their grave marker has incorrect death dates for both of them. Edward Cook wrote his will August 28, 1842, which was six months after the death date on their personal marker. This proves he did not die February 7, 1842. The will was probated at the Cleveland County Court May Session 1843. A flat marker showing Edward Cook's Revolutionary War service has been placed at Edward's grave that gives the correct death date of February 7, 1843.

Nancy Cook did not die in February 1847 as stated on her grave marker. She was still living in the 1850 Cleveland County census with her granddaughter, Nancy Cook, 17 years old. The granddaughter's father was John Cook, who lived two doors down from his mother, Nancy. The older Nancy Cook was 84 years old in 1850 which would mean she was born in 1766, which is her birth year on her grave marker.

Edward Cook's will may give a clue about Nancy's death. His land (two hundred acres on Ward's Creek) was listed for taxes for ten years after his death and was sold in 1853. The deed was made Nov. 8, 1853 by David Wortman, executor of the estate of Edward Cook. David Wortman was the husband of Edward's daughter, Kizzia. The deed was proven in open court Dec. 24, 1853. Edward's will stated that at the death or marriage of his wife his land and all other property of every kind was to be divided equally among all his children and his wife in case she should marry. Since the land was not to be sold until Nancy's death or marriage, that gives a strong indication that Nancy died in 1853, the year Edward's land was sold.
